Motorcycle Helmet Brands

Quick and easy research about your favorite Motorcycle Helmet Brands.

Here you can find quick reading headlines about the major players in the motorcycle helmet market. Click a brand name if you need more information.

When I'm making a major motorcycle accessory purchase, like a helmet, I like to check out the manufacturer. It's a bonus if the company seems serious about the quality of their product. The Department of Transportation and the Snell Memorial Foundation can't go out and check each and every helmet, so doing your homework is a good idea .

Arai Helmets

Satisfaction. As of 2008, Arai earned a 10th straight No. 1 ranking in J.D. Power Helmet Customer Satisfaction Study. While unquestionably good, they are pricey.

Shoei Helmets

Extremely hjgh quality, hand assembled. quiet in use. One of the most respected motorcycle helmet brands. Relatively pricey.

HJC Helmets

Wins the popularity contest. While Arai wins in the satisfaction race, not everyone can pay the price. Enter HJC. The most popular helmet company since 1992.

KBC Helmets

My favorite of the motorcycle helmet brands, the name KBC means high volume, high quality and great midrange prices. Made popular in part by the excellent VR-1.

Fulmer Helmets

Based in Memphis, TN. Fulmer is so committed to you getting the best fit that they only sell thorugh their dealer network and not online or mail order.

Shark Helmets

French helmet maker Shark came to the U.S. in 2006. Shark competes with high-end helmet makers like Suomy, Arai and Shoei. It can be difficult to find Shark helmets in stock at a local store, but this store will let you return for a different size within seven days and even pay the shipping. Known for light weight and comfort, Shark helmets aren't reputed to be the best with regards to fogging and ventilation.

Icon

Icon comes in at the mid to high price point for most models. They claim to have the best ventilation in any helmet (Airframe). I haven't had the opportunity to try one out. If you have experience with Icon take a sec and leave a comment.

Joe Rocket

Yes, THAT Joe Rocket! After establishing the company with motorcycle apparel, Joe Rocket introduced it's own line of helmets into the already crowded market. I can't be certain, but from looking at the ratchet mechanism, etc. the JR helmets look to be made by HJC for Joe Rocket. I could think of a lot worse companies they could pick to build helmets for them. Looks like a good move from here.

Scorpion Sports Inc.

Scorpion invites you to "Get Stung" with their EXO line of helmets. Scorpion is not just another distributor of white label lids. They have their own manufacturing facility where they oversee each step of the manufacturing process. Here's a video about Scorpion Helmets.

Nolan Helmets

Comfort and quality. The world leader in polycarbonate helmets.

M2R -Made 2 Race Helmets

Importer of Taiwanese helmets, very popular on the MX tracks and a good choice for entry level to midrange. Their focus is fit and function.

Bell Powersports Inc.

Named for the town outside of Los Angeles where it started, Bell is an all American helmet company. No motorcycle helmet brands review would be complete without mentioning Bell. They produce helmets for motorcycling as well as bicycling and auto racing.

Suomy

High end racing lids. Suomy started marketing helmets in 1997. They are firmly rooted in the road racing circuit, first sponsoring Andrea Bartolini. They now have ties with team Ducati.

AFX North America Inc.

Started in 1995, AFX specializes in the design and production of motorcycle, ATV and snowmobile helmets. The helmets are produced in Taiwan. This company's aim is to give riders a full featured helmet at a reasonableprice. AFX only sells to one distributor in each country in which it has a presence, and this distributor sells to the various retailers. This cuts out one level that is normally in the helmet supply chain, which should allow them to sell at very competitive prices.

Bieffe

This was my first full face helmet. I had an old BR15 Classic in solid white. Not the lightest but a great performer.

AGV / Lazer

European. The combined history of these companies goes back to 1919. Lazer started out making helmets made of leather. Over the years they made helmets especially for racing, snowmobile, car racing and bicycles as well as motorcycle helmets.

THH Helmets

THH stands for "Tong Ho Hsing" Helmet company. This is another Taiwanese company that has been around awhile (since 1974).

Vega Helmets

Open to trying a new brand? Then check out Vega before you buy. Vega Helmets sell directly to retailers (dealers), cutting out the distributor link in the supply chain. This allows them to sell at very competitive prices.

Vemar Helmets

Vemar Helmets is an Italian company with roots back to 1975 when the company was started to build fiberglass tanks for wine, oil and water. Not cheap, as with most European brands, but not the most expensive either. I'd place Vemar in the mid to high price category.

Winex Helmets

I was introduced to Winex back in 2005 and carried them in my shop for a while. I guess DOT approved is DOT approved, but the helmets left a lot to be desired in fit and finish. Low on my list of recommendations for a helmet to be honest. The parent company is Shock Racing.

Zamp Helmets

Lead by helmet designer David Zampierin, Zamp focuses on safety, comfort and cosmetic appeal. . .shouldn't every helmet maker do that?

I will be adding more information about specific motorcycle helmet brands soon. When I do, this page's links will be updated. In the mean time the community needs your input!
